This has to be coming soon.
And so does EarthBound Zero, as it's already been translated, no reason not to release it.

Iwata mentioned three titles that would be ideal for VC at E3, and EB was one of them.

Thoughts?

I admit, Earthbound would be a terrific VC release, mostly because Nintendo won't suffer as much if it doesn't sell too well, like the last time. Not like that'll happen this time, not with the huge cult following it has accrued over the years.

As for Earthbound Zero, I think the only reason they'd release that game is if Mother 3 was to be released here. Which it should be in my opinion.

Since the GBA ports have been canceled in NA, and Mother3 has never been announced outside Japan, I can only see Earthbound to be released on the VC.
Hopefully also in PAL countries.

Yeah, I want Mother3 really, really bad.
I imported it, but it's not the same.
And EBZ was translated way back when it was released but for some reason they never released it here even though it was all ready.
I have to admit though... I'm part of Starmen.net...

Here's some videos:

Iwata's mention of it is encouraging.

Cancelled? Were they even announced, to begin with?

They could release both NES and SNES EarthBounds right now if they wanted, but they might be waiting for a special ocassion since they're so "special". We might get the NES game in the next Hanabi, as their yearly unreleased exclusive.

By the way, it wasn't called EarthBound Zero... Just EarthBound, like the SNES game.

Actually, it was called Mother in japanese, and while it was going to be released here, it was known as Earthbound Zero to show its prequilness.

Yes they did.

Just before the release of Mother3 in japan, at the same time Mother1+2 were released there, Nintendo.com published in their list the GBA cart with "coming soon" or "release date to be announced" as text.

And they stayed there for a while before disappering.
You know NoE site is quite depressive for what concernes real news, so me, and I'm sure a lot of European guys, look at Nintendo.com very often to know what's happening oputside Japan.

And the (lost) American version of Mother was not called Earthbound like the SNES game.
It was called Earth Bound.

No, EarthBound Zero was only a name made up by the hackers who modified the dumped ROM so it would work in early (inaccurate) emulators.

I wish EarthBound did come out on VC (in Pal too.)
It's one game i really wanna play and own, and Nintendo never gave me that option to do so.

I can't wait for EB on the VC.

AND if Lucas' appearance in Brawl gets enough acclaim, we may see a US release of Mother 3...

I want Earthbound more than anything else. The whole series.
The best thing would be Mother 1+2+3 on Nintendo DS. (IN EUROPE!!!) and the US.

It's good to have the chance of experiencing the first two games translated (in English) on emulators, thank heavens, but playing the Japanese version of Mother 3 is not that fun. I want to understand what happens actually, damn hard if you don't understand Japanese at all.

It seems like there are still not enough Earthbound fans around in the west to turn Nintendos heads on that matter. F***** capitalists! This game shouldn't follow the same system.

Anyway, good men at starmen.net work hard to translate Mother 3 and give it away for free (thumbs up!). I'm going to send them money. They got my respect!

For all you fine people who don't know, there was a recent project being done by the incredibly dedicated fans of www.starmen.net (http://www.starmen.net) called the EarthBound Siege. This wsa a program that was meant to show many game developers the intense love that they held for the series and to thank the creators in a most personal way. In it is a nuclear bomb of fan art, videos, music, and sculptures. That and a 70 page list of over 700 comments made from various fans thanking the creator of EarthBound (my comment rests in that box too). Check it out as the translated into Japanese version was just finished and sent straight to some very deserving people.

Check it out.

P.S. The EarthBound fans are the most dedicated and creative of all fans of any form of electronic entertainment.

I have to play this game now. I read a post on their forum by a guy who said he's played it through like 30 times!

EARTHBOUND
This is the RPG with the funkiest music, craziest story and ugliest graphics.
And I love it because of this.
6/5 Stars
