It didn't come to Europe back then... But that could mean we'll get a 60Hz version if they decide to make a PAL release, this time.

my friend borrowed this game from an old local importfreak shop in germany, when i first played it on snes i knew this game has much to offer. after i have beaten it i wanted to have this game more than anything else.
i waited for it but it never came.. and as Mother3 was cancelled for N64 i downloaded a rom. i couldnt be any longer without earthbound. i played this on emu like 90% of all european gamers who couldnt import this rare gem.
if nintendo wants us to be this way, don't release it over here.
but i would no doubt get it on Wii, this is my most anticipated SNES title.
i cant understand why nintendo keeps this title away from us forever.
btw. i just started playing earthbound zero and mother3.
earthbound zero is so fun and a great RPG! but i stopped it now in merrysville. i want to experience it on a maybe GBA/DS/VC release.
I can't understand MOTHER3 (obviously its in japanese) but after playing it for 2 hours I realised it has a good chance to be even better than Earthbound. I love it already.

Though M3 needs some extra effort, since I have to play it with a translation guide nearby.

Never really played this series before, but everyone say it's good so if it would be released I probably would buy it.
And besides, have they released a Rom with Mother3? I recently heard that they just found 4 64DD disks marked with "M3" which they thought contained Mother3.
neuzd
2nd August 2007, 02:01 PM
I'm talking of the GBA game of the last year.
The N64 version hasn't been released, so I wouldn't be looking forward for it. In addition the actual M3 seems to be based on that original version (at least the 4 main characters and the few infos we had about EarthBound64 -this the western title-), so I feel this is the only Mother3 that counts.
PS
I love Japanese GBA games packaging and Mother3 packaging alone is worth all the money I paid for the game.
Joxe
4th August 2007, 07:22 PM
Oh, great that you straighted things out for me. The GBA game wasn't released in europe (as far as I know) so I didn't know it was called M3.

Mother 3 is great. Great, great game and unfortunately the chances are good that we will never play it. But we Earthbound fanatics keep fighting the good fight.
Earthbound WILL come to the virtual console. It's a classic game and Nintendo will milk that sooner or later. It's just a matter of when, and to be honest I'm guessing within the year.

Juice_Lee

Well...It's turn based, so like Golden Sun. You can choose to attack, defend, use items, use psychic powers (magic), run away, etc etc etc.
Oh, and dude, you aren't annoying. Do not worry about it. I do not get annoyed anyway.

Wow, good to see the game has a lot of fans here.
I was somewhat concerned nobody would know about it.
I've been sending in "Everybody Votes Channel" poll suggestions with the question "Would you like to see EarthBound on the Virtual Console?" every so often. You guys don't have to do the same, but if some of you did, that would add to the few hundred who are already doing so and the more people we have sending them in, the more it captures Nintendo's attention. :D

Money has killed many game makers, who once actually cared how good a game was, now they only care about money.
Square Enix(Started with FF7)
Blizzard(Started with WoW)
just for examples, but ever since those 2 titles, those 2 companies haven't done half as well in the eyes of the gamers since then.
as for me, i'll play my Zsnes until nintendo brings it out.

The Nintendo strategy for the VC seems to be to release their games periodically and rely more on the third party software. It's a smart move IMO. We all know first party Nintendo stuff always creams the third parties, so Nintendo is giving the third parties more of a chance to get their software out there and make some money. That keeps them happy and leads to more games from them for both the VC and Wii.

It's a piracy related issue and we're not at liberty to say where directly. A quick Mother 3 ROM search on google should net you the rom, though. I don't think it's ESA protected so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I don't know about Mother and Mother 3, but I'm still holding out hope that EarthBound will get a release of some kind over here. When you think about it, doesn't Nintendo always say that Marth's and Roy's popularity in Super Smash Bros. Melee was the driving force behind the decision to start releasing Fire Emblem games in North America? And now we've seen at least four Fire Emblem games in North America that we may never have got otherwise. And EarthBound has already been released over here anyway! Let's all join hands and hope that Ness and Lucas will raise enough interest in the Mother series's glorious return to Western shores.

Dream Jogurt.
I can't see a game released 8 months before the Wii launch making it to VC.
I don't see how portable consoles should be emulated on a home system. I can't see the logic in it, though a game like Mother 3 could effectively fit, being an RPG; but the fact that you can bring your game around is too important (pokémon anyone?).
I don't see why the GBA should be released on VC!!!!! It's still a young system, and even if there aren't anymore many games made for it, it's still the best console ever manufactured in my opinion.
I don't like people pretending things the way they like.
Do you want Mother 3? Buy a GBA SP and a copy of the game. Period.

Oh come on, I didn't say it would be released, and I didn't say when. I just said it has an outside chance. For all we know, the VC will support all kinds of portable systems sometime in the future, either on Nintendo's next home console, or on some future handheld console. "Maybe coming to Japanese VC!" doesn't mean "maybe coming to VC in the next few months!"
I don't like people pretending things the way they like.

I'd love to see it on VC. It's going to happen, people, but it's really more of a matter when. I imported Mother 3 and I love it, but the chances of a localization are slim to none. Stranger things have happened, though. Haven't played Earthbound 0 (Mother) yet.

I agree with you entirely. It's a game that Nintendo has to do almost no leg-work to dump on the VC. It'll be a no-brainer for them. Maybe they'll wait until some Mother's Day or Earth Day within the next couple of years. ;)

2 weeks a month, huh? With new games and everything? That's exciting, but scary at the same time... Are they eventually, like, planning to do away entirely with disk games? That would be scary... You wouldn't really own the game at all... And if it got corrupted or if your Wii got stolen, then there'd be really no way to replace it unless you had a receipt or something from Nintendo, but then it gets complicated... I really don't want a future that way, but it looks like that's where it's headed...

I'm still pretty sure this is a christmas release. right now wiiware is all the jazz, and it will be for a few months. Then Nintendo will start to get VC back on track with maybe two games per week, then maybe some random wiiware week. Then come christams time they'll think, "wow we gave them a lot of crap, maybe we should give them Earthbound" Then some random Nintendo worker will think "GAVE THEM CRAP? We've been giving them gold all year, and don't forget about all of our holiday wii games, VC is the least of out problems"

Perhaps the fact that we got a ESRB rated game recently (Metal Slug) means we'll actually get EarthBound. Of course, im just being optimistic, but I really want to play the game badly. I don't have my SNES with me anymore (its at my parents house), and I dont really feel like bringing all that stuff down here...so Im pretty much stuck with VC. Come on Nintendo...

Perhaps. It does kind of seem like VC has been pretty slow since the release of WiiWare. I guess Nintendo is trying to play their cards carefully. Wii just did release Wii Fit, and im sure that many people are still playing that. Currently, in the slowness that is the VC, im taking time to complete some of my other games, on Wii, and on other platforms. Im still going through the original Metroid Prime (in an effort to eventually get Metroid Prime 3), and also I'm playing NiGHTS along with some other games. So I think while I wait, I'll have a lot to keep me busy.

I still have Earthbound for my SNES, but currently the controller on the SNES isn't working great, so I can't play it. :(
I'm really hoping Earthbound comes to the VC soon. It would be a great game to have on the Wii (even if my SNES controller was working right I'd get it).

Ya, that sucks. I miss how it was last year with the VC. Three games a week. Not always three good games, but still, it improved our chances of getting more good games sooner (and its not like theres any shortage of good games on any of these systems).
I wish Nintendo would put VC and Wiiware on different days. That way they could release more of both each week...

I'm not sure really. I know there are a few, but maybe after this month they'll be more spread out?
Upcoming wiiware games I know about: Tetris Wiiware, Toki Tori (hasn't been released in US), Beer Pong (ugh), Pirates, World of Goo, Eterny's Child.
And it seems like every time I turn around more Wiiware games are being announced, so maybe they do have a heavy volume. I'm just not sure.
I suppose we could get some Mondays were its just the VC games being released though... (maybe big games like Earthbound, Majora's Mask, etc will be released without wiiware, so as not to take away from wiiware? ).

Go for it. It won't change anything, though.
Also, offsetting the release days by one isn't going to change anything either. I don't buy into the conspiracy theory that the same release day is cutting into either schedule. Just this week, we got the most anticipated first party WiiWare game (Dr. Mario) and one of the most critically acclaimed VC games (Metal Slug) at the same time. The people working on WiiWare and the people preparing VC releases are not the same folks. There's no reason they would interfere other than at big obvious marketing times (like launch day).

Well, sure, its different folks, but by putting them both on Mondays, I think Nintendo feels like they can have only so many of each come out on Mondays. Like two wiiware, two vc (or less).
I think, by putting them on different days, it would allow the teams to, at least, put out three of each a week. Or maybe three VC and two Wiiware. Plus, if you release a big game like Earthbound or Majora's Mask, that game won't take away from the Wiiware (or vice versa).
It just seems like it would be better for the two to be on different days.
IMO, VC should be on Mondays and maybe Wiiware should be on Thursday or Friday (or Wensday even).

Nintendo wouldn't do that. They're a business, and they know about market dynamics. Supply and demand. If they flood the market, it means less earning potential for each individual title.
It just seems like it would be better for the two to be on different days.
Better for the consumer, because of more selection, but not better for the company. And when it comes to business, it's the dollars that decide.

Earthbound is a really good game. The story is very wacky/strange, the battles are fun (even though you don't see your players, kind of like Dragon Quest), the setting is unique, etc.

Personally my favorite game. I love this game so much and also Mother 3.
I hope it comes to VC. I really do but being around starmen.net so much I don't have much high hopes anymore. I even bought the original cart off ebay for $78 and I'd still buy this game on VC and gift it to a bunch of people. I just hope it happens...

Well, as one can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a huge Earthbound fan. I've loved the game so very much ever since I first popped it into my SNES back in the summer of 1995 and I don't hesitate to name it my favourite game of all time. Truly a marvellous game.
And that makes Nintendo of America's treatment of the Mother franchise all that much more painful. Being forced to watch the GBA port of Mother 1+2 and ultimately, the long-awaited Mother 3 be released in Japan but not come to North America, despite Mother's diehard fanbase, is nothing short of torture for a long-time fan like myself. Even worse is the fact that neither Mother nor Mother 2 have shown up on the Virtual Console. I want to pay eight more dollars (or 80% of what I spent on my original cartridge. >_>) to buy Earthbound, but Nintendo refuses to give me the opportunity. :(
At any rate, I'd like to see Earthbound show up on VC if for no other reason to introduce a new generation to one of the most finely-crafted RPGs ever created. I feel the best way to summarize the Mother franchise is the Japanese tagline of Mother 3: "strange, funny, heart-rending". I want more gamers to experience it.
Not to mention that I'd like to experience Mother 3 myself...

Earthbound is also my favorite game. I'm getting restless. I want it to be on the VC BAD.
Mother 3 is good. I imported it, and even though I don't understand the text it's fun. Starmen.net is doing the translation patch still, will probably be out soon (whatever that means). I used to go to starmen.net a lot more often, especially the forums, but everyone there got pretty pretentious and degrading, to the point where I didn't feel welcome.

Super Mario RPG disappeared from the ESRB ratings site and then was released soon after. They wouldn't bother rating it if they weren't going to release it. It'll come, it's just a matter of time.

I think you're right in that there is an unfinished (i.e. not polished/finalized) official translation of Mother in existence. They'd still have to go back to it, fix it up, and apply it to the game.
That would make Mother the first "previously unreleased" game on the VC, which would be pretty cool... unless they were to lame out and put it on WiiWare for more than 500 points...

Actually, Mother 1 was fully translated and completely ready to be shipped to the masses. It just wasn't because the NES was already passed its expiration date due to the SNES. So they just didn't release it and gave us Mother 2, or Earthbound.

NO, don't say that! NOOOOO!
Actually, I would mind Yoshi's Island for Christmas.
BUT I WANT EARTHBOUND MORE!
Wait... ****, I'll have to wait untill Hanabi Festival.

One way or another I'm sure we'll be getting some real good games this Christmas.

I know that, but we only got DKC3 on Christmas Day.
But forget about that. This is ment to be about EarthBound.

But in NA we didn't get games on Christmas, we got them on the monday before Christmas. So getting a extra game that week hs better than what we got.

I couldn't wait any longer for this to come to the VC, so I snagged it off eBay for around $50.
It's sooo fantastic. The atmosphere, music and writing are just really fresh and inspired. I nearly fell out of my chair when I got to Moonside. This game NEEDS to be on the VC. Everyone should experience it.
Considering how much I'm enjoying it now, I can't wait to play MOTHER 3, it may be even better.

True, it was a good deal. =) I was bored and searched the game on eBay, and there it was, "Buy It Now" and everything. The game usually goes for a weighty sum of around $65-$80.
