What do you think of this remake, I like it but other people don't so I decided that I would make a poll, post your opinions here:cool:

As someone who grew up with the N64 classic, I like it. Mostly.
Some of the touch screen stuff is really unnecessary though. The balloon popping levels are too fiddly and repetitive to be much fun, and the turbo starts are awful!
Still, it's a great game that does a fairly good job of capturing the N64 game's charm (Even without Conker :(). I'd be up for a WiFi game sometime!

Yeah, the touch screen stuff is garbage, they should have just ported over the original and then add new characters, tracks and most of all, difficlty settings, Wish Race is cool however

I didn't liked it back then (Mario Kart 64 was far better) and the DS version is stripped down and worse so competing against a perfect Mario Kart DS this game isn't worth playing.

What do you think about wish race? I like it but T.T is way too easy to beat!

I read somewhere that the T.T. time trials in the DS version and the game itself is much easier than its N64 counterpart.
As I only played it on the DS once and have beaten the N64 version,
for me it was one of the biggest challenges to beat T.T. on every track next to getting all silver coins in the main races. i think the silver coin challenge also was removed from the DS version.

It's a pretty good game, I give it around 87%/4*. Add another 5%/1* if there were no Turbo starts =[

BTW, I know it's a little random, but which one is meant to be file #1?
Bottom left or Top?

I just bought it, it's no Mario Kart. But that's not a bad thing. I think it's quite the desent game. it has a lot more to offer than mario kart. there's adventure mode, multiplayer might be better, and some other added things to the game.
The fact that everyone has the exact same car is kinda stupid, but at least every character is differnt. But it's still nice that you can upgrade your car/hover boat thing/ plane, and even change the colors. the tracks are pretty fun, a lot differnt from mario kart DS, which I like.
the touch controls are ok. I like it more than mario kart where you have to know the exact moment when to press A. the car is pretty hard to do the spin thing but I'm ok at it. The plane I'm much better at starting with, and the hovercraft I get full spead each time.
And to be honest I like the balloon challenges, it's something mario kart never had. It's afuly hard to get gold on each one, which adds a little something for you people who like to be perfect at everything. I mean it's not something you'd try for hours and see if you could do it but still. It's also an easy way to get coins.
As for the items, not what I expected at all. I think there's only five items. But you can power up each item three times which makes......15 items? there's missle, spead boost, a oil spil thingy, electro azpper thing, and a magnet. might be more but I can't think of them. so each item you get, you must decide if you'll save it to power up or use it right away.
The tracks in my opinion are much better than mario kart DS's tracks. each track has a nice rare feel to it. and every track has some sort of secret passage way. plus you can chose between car plane or boat in most tracks which will, add a bit more of a challenge on whatever your doing. But my biggest problem with the tracks are, that they're very short. most tracks take 25-35 seconds for one lap. which is something mario kart DS did much better. but then again, a shorter track adds more chalenge, and maybe more fun.
Oh one really cool part of this game is the voice recordings. In the game you can recored your voice and it plays during races. You can say a differnt thing for when you shoot an item, get hit, win lose, or get into first. so I think that's really cool.
Online is better than Mario Kart DS, you can chose how many players, what type of race and what car.
But mario Kart DS and Diddy Kong Racing DS are two totally differnt games. I'd recomend both. But some people just wont like Diddy Kong Racing. But I think diddy kong owns mario kart.

Like The shoemaker said, I don't think it is a Mario Kart, in matters of feel and gameplay. I mean I had bought the original game for the Nintendo 64 (and I have yet to beat it), and I think it is really great. I totally think it is a challenging game, but at the same thing, on a more negative note, it feels very linear, like it is just another racing game.
I don't have a real opinion on what I think of the DS release, as it pretty much a copy of the original, added a few features, but it still is okay. I would probably rate it three stars, citing that there really is no improvement to the game, and there really is nothing that makes it better than any other game. It had a lot of hype back in 1996, but now I feel it just doesn't live up to anything worth remembering.

Maybe the only reason I like this game so much is because I've never played the original. But it does feel a bit rushed, and maybe the reason it feels different from mario kart is because it's "just another racing game."

I think it's alright, a proper rival to Mario Kart DS but the big letdown is the new balloon challenges. they were far too fiddly and felt rushed but i prefer this over the original Silver coin challenge as i hated that. To sum it up, it's quite good but could easily have been better, considering it's from Rare

I've finally gotten the track editor (some time ago actually) and to be honest, it's kind of a disappointment. It's completely unbalanced on how the track will look, you only get three backgrounds (all very similar) you can only race one CPU at a time, and you can't select music. The music is fine but still. I was hoping I could make my own backgrounds, have little tunnels, and neat stuff happen, but it turned out to be a chap little cloud thing. I guess I had my hopes too high.
