Lookie what Blizzard announced.

http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/080628.html
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game's physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game's random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment's renowned online gaming service, Battle.netŪ.

Well, it should work over Battle.net and no game has had a fee over that system yet and I certainly don't hope this is the first one.

About the game itself, I'm really really happy that they announced it since Diablo II was the first game I really played online, I've just started playing again just to get back the feeling :)

I've heard everything from 2009 to 2011 as release so let's hope it's released as soon as possible!

Unless Blizzard decides to add more features to the game as it ages there is no reason for a monthly fee.

Yea i hope so. Im sure they wont. But hey they kept adding stuff to D2 as the game got older. I know its not the same as what they do in WoW, EQ2 or any other MMO but still

I wasn't planning on upgrading my computer, damn!

Oh well, I don't really like the graphics of this game, I usually don't complain about that, but this just doesn't feel like diablo at all. Gameplay still seems fun though, when a demo's out I'll try it, and if it runs smoothly on my computer I'll consider buying it.

Lots of people have arguing against the graphics, since this isn't the Battle.net forum where you get flames as soon as you think by yourself I actually care to ask:

What is it with the graphics that is bad?

I don't know why people keep complaining about the graphics. When I saw the demo, I felt it looked similar to Diablo. Sure it has similarities to other BLizzard games, but its not OMG WOW CLONE! If anything, its got its own style unique from anything they've done before, and we've only seen one demo... And they just made the graphics look like they would in a 3D environment like all their current games, where Diablo II was done in the same way as StarCraft was. If you remember, the graphics changed from WCII to WCIII. And they are changing now from SC to SCII.

But it looks like they're still keeping the same attention to detail and all the same gameplay. Which is the important things. I have been fearing for years, ever since the rumors of them making a new game were circulating, that they were just going to make this game into WoW2. Set in the world of Diablo. I was not only amazed at how well it seems they are keeping true to the gameplay, but everything they were showing with the new features was really interesting me. And if they keep true with their promise of making it 'bigger and longer' than even Diablo II, then I'll be playing that thing for hundreds of hours just like the previous game.

The only complaint I have is....looks like the new Witch Doctor guy is gonna replace my favorite character. But oh well, it was about time I stopped just making Necromancers all the time.

It just doesn't have that diablo-feeling, I'm not saying that such a thing is so bad that I won't get the game, it's just one little bad thing comming with probably a lot of good things. I trust that blizzard know's what they're doing.

Well, I for one found the graphics really nice since I see it like it's been 20 years since Diablo last corrupted things. Not like Diablo 2 that took place just some weeks after Diablo 1, now the land have had time to heal and it's about as it should've been all the time.

And besides, if you don't look on the lore, computers have more power not which means that you can have this kind of graphics, if Blizzard would've been able to do that in 2000 I tjhink D2 would look pretty much the same.

Graphics or not, I hope that D3 will be a kickass game, if I know Blizzard they won't fix anything that isn't broken. Don't expect 1000 of new innovations in D3 but more an upgrade from D2 (just like with SCII).
