View Full Version : Curious sound when starting NES titles on the VC

Whenever I start playing an NES title on my Wii it plays this funny 3-note melody. Does anybody know what it means? It's a minor chord and sounds like something that would be associated with an error message -- but nothing really happens. It seems to reconnect my Wii remote and that's about it. I thought it was battery-related or something, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I tried looking up information on the official site about it, but it's kind of difficult to generate any searches related to something that might not even be a problem. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Doesn't that noise happen with all vc games?

The sound that I get when I start up any other VC game is a happy two-note thing. The one I get when I start an NES game is different.

I sent an e-mail to Nintendo's customer service. If I hear anything back I'll post it here in case anybody else is wondering about this issue. It's probably not a big deal, but I'd still like to know what it means.

Okay, so I called Nintendo and the support reps had never heard of it happening before. Odd. Anyway, it appears to be nothing... I guess. Perhaps it will go away in a later firmware update.

What is it like a buzzing noise?

Nah, not a buzzing noise. It's an actual sound effect. It is three notes instead of the usual two that play whenever you resume a VC game. Believe me when I say it sounds like something is wrong (to some degree). If I can record it sometime I will post it. Hopefully this isn't some harbinger of problems with my VC NES titles.
