I liked contra more than super C. After awhile I was able to beat Contra without using the 30 man code. It was a great game. It's on the xbox live arcade right now but I would love to see it on VC.

If you're already used to the X-Box Live version... just don't expect to like its NES port the same.
Nintendo should really put up a "Virtual Arcade" for those games that were in the arcades, instead of giving us some of the inferior ports (they even released the NES Gradius instead of the much better TurboGrafx version, by the way).

In all fairness though, doesn't the NES version have an extra level or two?

The NES version has 8 levels and think the NES gradius is great and I downloaded it as soon as it comes out mind you I have never played the turbographix 16 gradius and I owned the NES one in the 80's.

That's how the arcade was called in Europe, too. So only Nintendo is to blame (or praise?) for the robot makeup, I guess.
It would be kinda cool to see the probotectors making appearances in the new Contra games, by the way.

Nintendo was better off with robots because Gryzor was banned in Europe!
Therefore the only wise choice was to change the rambos into robots.
hehehe... hey look at that!!
i found some other old Contra versions..
MSX (the one that also comes for VC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-H7McvCHZQ
it has not even scrolling and loading times between each screen!
ZX Spectrum

wow! wonderful colors. this thing was capable of something!
Amstrad CPC

come on whats that? this is so confusing! i cant get used to this one.
Screw them all, bring out my C64 one :D

Are you sure it was Nintendo who did it? I thought it was to do with trouble releasing it in Germany, due to the humans-violence thing.
I actually prefer the robots, funnily enough. I could do without the Probotector name though!

Nintendo might have had something to do with the change to Probotector, but it was just a guess.
After all, they were indeed responsibles for the censorship in games such as Castlevania (religious icons) or Maniac Mansion (partial nudity in a statue).

I have Super C but it isn't working right... I'll try to get it to work though, then try to add more to this.
I lost my Contra a LONG time ago.
I have no other Contra anymore (which is horrible)
I WANT CONTRA 4

Contra and all its 8 and 16 Bit sequels are what make Video Games GREAT!
The only reason I choose Super C over Contra is that I prefer the Top Down levels of Super C over the Pseudo 3-d Levels of the original. But, they are both almost equal in greatness to me.
