I'm pretty sure this is regarded as the greatest game on the console. Your thoughts?

Chrono Trigger is holy. But don't forget Earthbound.
Both shake hands on the golden top of the SNES pyramid.

I actually never played Earthbound *gasp!*...Not sure why. Secret of Evermore was awesome as well though.

Chrono Trigger is indeed still the best RPG of all time. I've replayed this game so many times, it's just simply perfect. Great battle system, great story, great characters etc.

Seriously, if you haven't played Earthbound yet, go find an emulator and a rom. And don't feel bad about stealing from Nintendo either because once you play a bit you're gonna buy it.

Chrono Trigger is a true classic, and one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
Far better than that piece of overrated crap, FF7.
But Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3 still top my list :-p

I would've rather gotten Seiken Densetsu 3 in the US than SoE.

are the chances slim that Chrono Trigger will be released on VC? I played through about half of it once and just stopped playing it suddenly, i dunno why.

Chrono Trigger is an outstanding Game and the best Import I've ever done^^
But Idon't think Chrono Trigger will be released on VC very quickly... maybe never.
SquareEnix throw every successful game they had on an older Console out and convert them to DS or GBA. Imho they want to bring CT on one of thies platforms, too (hey... 40Euros are better then 800[perhaps 900] WiiPoints...-.- ).

There's one thing that has confused me about this game- I have read that it wasn't released for PAL, however when i was young, i can clearly remember renting it from a video store and playing it. How would this be?

See, that's the thing. Final Fantasy 7 was overrated for a reason. And besides, if Final Fantasy 7 wasn't overrated, I can BET YOU that people on the VC forums would talk about how good it is.
Although I really have no opinion on the matter.
@ SKTTR I'm guessing you mean the SNES RPG Pyrimad, otherwise A Link To The Past and Super Metroid would be right up there with them. Oh, and did you forget Final Fantasy 4, 5, AND 6? :D

If it does it likely won't happen for a LONG time. But if you have a DS you can just get the enhanced port of it.

Yes, we know for sure because Square-Enix themselves have stated that they are only putting IPs on the VC that wouldn't be profitable to remake or port.
"We’re definitely looking into all the other download mediums. We don’t think the games and the IP that we have have lost value yet, so we haven’t decided if releasing them on VC is the best idea.
It’s a matter of the package — which is downloading. You look at a game, and you have to decide whether it will be better to be sold in a retail store, or if it will be better for download.
We’re making that decision carefully for each of the games that we have. It comes down to the games that we think we could make a good remake of haven’t been on VC yet."
So that means no Dragon Quest, no Final Fantasy and no Chrono Trigger since they are being remade and/or ported.

yea "so we haven’t decided if releasing them on VC is the best idea"
but who knows what happens in the future....
maybe it would be nice to release a remake on wii
listen, i dont have a DS, and DS and wii are close to each other, maybe a remake of CT on wii will do the job
ps. i said: MAYBE
as they said: we haven't decided.... who knows what happens

Sorry. There will be no Wii remake of Chrono Trigger, and there will be no VC version of Chrono Trigger for at least another 4-5 years, and even then it's unlikely. There's no sense in being needlessly hopeful about it.
If you want it you can either track down a SNES copy on eBay or something, find Final Fantasy Chronicles (PS) if you're not in Europe, or else invest in a DS with the DS port that's coming this month.

sigh, i only can hope, cant i?
i never could experience how it is on snes... guess another way then
but, i still hope, cuz thats not illegal or something
we arent sure of nintendo, but i wont argue about that anymore now, only waste of time, i get the same replies over and over again
its nintendo who decide, not us....
i only think this: if they release on VC, they make money, and if they dont, people can still buy on snes, so why not on VC? people who habve it on snes, might also buy on VC.. is more money

No, if they release it on VC, then everyone buys it for $8 on VC instead of $40 on the DS, thus they lose money.

They will make much more money with a DS port than a VC one. Also, what does the SNES version have to do anything, SE doesn't make any money off of that any more.

what i've heard is that the DS CT is some more advanced
what would people rather do? 1. buying less advanced one 2. buying the more advanced one
i think nr2, then if people have the snes version, and dont want the DS version, then they will not get any money from those who dont want DS version, cuz they have snes version already
and as we know, lots of people prefer VC over another console in their room(s)
and then my question is: why wouldn't they make a wii version?
just let it be playable with wii remote on its side, and of course the traditional wii controller (MAYBE even the gamecube controller), and have a great game for those who dont own a DS like myself and they sell even better then just a DS CT, since both DS and wii are very popular, and not everyone wants both DS and wii
it's so simple, they can make money by releasing the DS version also on wii Jogurt told em they wouldn't, so tell me why... i dont see anything bad at the idea

The DS has been a natural platform for retro ports and remakes. There are a bajillion of them. Not so with the Wii, and indeed it seems like a waste of next-gen (current-gen, I guess) home console technology to port one old-school game. The only way it could ever come to the Wii is if it were part of a compilation (like Chronicles), which seems unlikely with the DS port being released in this generation.
Sorry, you can still hope if you want to.

Though I keep saying I've played this game out 12 years ago, and I won't buy it.. It's going to end up in my DS library... My only sad point to it all is such awesome music to be heard on DS speakers.
Though there are headphones, I hate the feeling of a short chained leash.

When I lie on my couch at the right angle, I can run my living room stereo cable into the DS. :)

I was kinda surprised to see the DS version of this game has barely has graphical improvements. I was expecting some 3D models like Square Enix has bone with the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest ports. Or at least some nice colorful smoth 2D design. Not that it makes any difference.

We've been saying all along, it's a port not a remake! :) A 3D update to this game would ruin it.

I spent a summer playing through the original SNES version of this when I was a teenager. One of the best gaming experiences I've ever had, and also one of the most memorable. It is a game that comes with my highest recommendation, as it ranks as one of my most favorite video games of all time.
The DS version has the gameplay and speed of the SNES version, as well as the anime cutscenes from the PSOne version. In addition to these things, it has some new optional dungeon areas that extend the second half of the game by at least five hours or more. Dungeon areas that have some minor plot elements to them that better flesh out the storyline connections between Chrono Trigger, and its sequel, Chrono Cross. There is also new equipment and weapons to be attained in these areas which make your characters even more powerful in combat on subsequent playthroughs.
Chrono Trigger DS keeps track of which endings you unlock, as well as a full enemy bestiary, item encylopedia, technique listing and information, cutscene viewer, sound track player, and location maps with missed treasure locations. There is also an optional uber boss that you can take on through a parallel world warp gate. Anyone who has beaten Chrono Cross can probably guess what you will find when you face the "Dream Devourer". Although players of that game know that it cannot be truly beaten without use of the Chrono Cross itself, it is still a great challenge and nifty optional boss to explain its first encounter with opposition.
Truly the definitive version of the game, and I have been playing it every free moment that I have. If you pass up such an amazing version of this incredible game, then shame on you. You'll be wishing you had later when used copies on Ebay soar past the prices of the original SNES version used. Truly a gem that belongs in any collection.

I'll be opening this at my Grandma's house this weekend, and I can't wait to play it!...which is pretty much the exact opposite of what I usually say about an RPG.
