Portrait of Ruin. The reviews be damned. They're both great games if you like Castlevania, though.

Which game is the longest? Not only beginning to end, but to go through all material and replayability

Grrrr, lost my text cos i lost the signal. booting laptop up, hold on.

There.

DOS hands down. POR was stupidly easy. I barely died and didn't get lost. In Vania I rapidly run out of places to go fast and spend hours looking for new places (Which I love). POR I always had at least 2 places to go. Until I was upto the end boss when I had one.

DOS I never got the great ending first time either. POR I did. DOS I had to suss it out and unfortunatly I was told what to do  I was looking if it had any unlockables and one of the secrets was how to get the ending

I played the game for ages and redone it twice. Hard mode too :) I must've spent 80+ hours on it. POR I spent maybe 15. POR has a poor boss rush mode too. It's split into 3. DOS you do em all in one!

POR is a good game but DOS is one of the 3 games that i'd give a 10-10 to.

I also wanted to get all the souls and uncover all of the map. So that gave me more play time too. Plus all the secret items there was to be found added to it.

Then when you beat hard mode, you get to go through it as a Belmont with some others too :D Although I never got around to beating it, and the games starting collecting dust once I got Starfox so I traded it in.

DOS isn't a port, it's a sequel. The touch screen bits feel tacked on (because they were and they were in POR too) but they never hinder the gameplay.

Get both, but start with DOS.

The nest of evil was Portrait of Ruin's battle arena. If you ever played Circle of the Moon is the same concept as that one but only harder.

COTM's was hard. Well, I had 100% of the map, so unless it was a secret unlockable that gamefaqs didn't mention, then I must've done it.

Mustn't have found it to hard, otherwise i'd remember it like I do with COTM's.

Neither. Wait!! Before you fanboys kill me,listen to what I have to say (and thenkill me). While both are superb titles, they didn't do anything revolutionary. While a year ago (Which all of your posts are from, coincidentially) I would have said Dawn Of Sorrow, but Portrait Of RUin is great, too(i accidentally got a used PoR because I thought it was DoS, never found out till I got home :(). BUT, a new Castlvania game ios coming out for the DS, and it is supposed to be as good (if not better) than Symphony. If that doesn'tpersuade you, I don't know what will. You may proceed to kill me now.

On a sidenote, anyone want a Strider Hryuu game on the DS?

Played both and their just a piece of cr** the controls I found were shoddy and never responded DON'T BUY EITHER. Save your money and get some Wii Ware games

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is soon coming. I saw some gameplay videos for it, and it looks pretty awsome to be honest.

I dont have the other Castlevania games for the DS, but they are cheaper now, when another one is getting released. So i might buy one of them.

The controls aren't bad (they are very good), and coming from the person who doesn't like so many classics (Earthworm Jim, Shining Force, etc.), I'm pretty sure it's a good idea to take your advice with a grain of salt.

I've never heard of Earthworm Jim or Shining Force and etc. but I do know that both are just ridiculous. Further more you can take the whole thing with a pinch of salt but I believe in what I think of the game.

I have them both and I'm gonna have to go with Dawn of Sorrow. Really fun.

And WHY do you think they're ridicolous? Besides, you also said that Super Castlevania IV was bad, andsince you think so, that pretty much means you think every classic Castlevania is bad (Super Castlevania IV is one of the best and most representational of the classic Castlevanias), and it appears you don't like the other Castlevanias either. Since you pretty much HATE all Castlevanias, your presence in this thread really doesn't make sense (if you hate Castlevanias so much, why should you be any help recommending the game to soomeone), unless you can say at least one Castlevania game (BESIDES Symphony Of The Night, which pretty much everyone has played) that you like.

Great value! Aria of Sorrow is worth the price of admission alone!

Don't forget that it used to be worth the price of admission. ;)

Anyways, I got it, and I love it (Aria Of Sorrow anyways; Harmony Of Dissonance is a bit... iffy).

I agree with that Aria is great, while Harmony... not so much. Order of Ecclesia is almost here just a bit more waiting.

Aww man no love for Harmony of Dissonance. I love that game. Circle of the moon is the one I don't enjoy as much.

I don't have a DS but with Order of Ecclesia coming out I am very tempted to get one
I love "Castleroid" games

i was playing Aria of Sorrow recently and finally got the soul eater ring. Now if I could just catch the sky fish:lolo2:

Aww man no love for Harmony of Dissonance. I love that game. Circle of the moon is the one I don't enjoy as much.Yeah, CotM wasn't so big a hit with me. It's just a tad bit too 'old school' for me--the controls weren't nearly so pleasant as in the latest games. I found the difficulty offbalanced, too--some parts were super-easy while other parts were crazy hard. I'm glad I played it--it was a fun game--but it's definitely at the bottom of the Castlevania heap for me (of the games I've finished, anyway, which isn't so many).

The GBA Sorrow game wasn't nearly as enjoyable for me as the DS Sorrow game. HoD would be the shining gem of the GBA Castlevanias for me, if it weren't for the high jump glitch. I can't believe Konami never fixed that. Was it just in the Double Pack, or also in the original?

I don't recall a glitch. I just loved the music in both games and the gothic art style.

I haven't played any Castlevania games on the DS. Actually, the only Castlevania game I have ever played was the first GB one, and even then only briefly. However, to remedy this, I just picked up a sweet used copy of Super Castlevania IV for my SNES, and I have Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles coming in the mail. After I play these and see what's what, I may think about trying out a DS entry.
