Oh wow, I could go on for ages on this one!
Let's see...
Arnie (something like a cross between an updated Commando and a proto-Cannon Fodder)
Creatures and Creatures 2 (brilliant, inventive platformers)
The Detective Game (a murder mystery sort-of-rpg)
Elite (classic space trading/fighting/exploring game)
Exile (engrossing exploration game with nifty puzzles and realistic physics)
Great Giana Sisters (Super Mario clone that's better than the original and quite unlikely to come out!)
Head Over Heels (utterly bizarre isometric platform/puzzle/explore-em-up)
Impossible Mission ("Destroy him, my robots!")
The Last Ninja series (brilliant puzzle/explore/fighting games)
Maniac Mansion (not a C64 original, but the best version)
Mayhem in Monsterland (Sonic-style platformer)
Mercenary (probably best described as a first-person rpg)
Nebulus (a hybrid puzzle/platformer)
Rick Dangerous and its sequel (fun but difficult platformers)
Treasure Island Dizzy (probably the most fun of the series)
Turrican and Turrican 2 (superb run-and-gun games, and quite different (and superior) to the MD/SNES versions)
Paradroid (hard to explain; sort of a shooter, but more strategic than frenetic)
Uridium (brilliant shooter)
Wasteland (classic post-apocalyptic rpg; not a C64 exclusive, but the best version)
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders (another great point-and-click adventure that's best on C64)
And lots of games from Rare (or Ultimate Play the Game as they were back then), which won't be coming out any time soon.
I'm sure there are loads I'm forgetting...

I doubt Great Giana Sisters will come out as nintendo sued the makers lol, it was a total rip off tho.
Id Like to add Barbarian, The other Dizzys , Night Shift and Guantlet.

Hence "quite unlikely to come out"! ;)
It would show quite a sense of humour on Nintendo's part if they did pass Giana for the VC though.

I would love to see:
:lolo-spin:
Ghostbusters
The Goonies
Pitfall
Gauntlet
Maniac Mansion
:lolo-spin:
I think those were the only ones I played as a kid. The Goonies game was an original for home computers made by Datasoft. It was great, and followed the movie's storyline pretty well. Here is a screen shot.
http://www.c64-wiki.de/images/3/32/Goonies_Front_Cover.jpg http://www.gb64.com/oldsite/gameofweek/9/goonies/goonies_1.gif
As you can see, this is a lot different than the NES Goonies 1 or Goonies 2.
Anyway, thats what I wish for.

Apart from the one's already mentioned I'm going for the games no-one has listed here.
ARCHON I+II+III
A trilogy of chess-like strategy.
When two enemy units are on the same spot, a simple random-generated and addicting battle-arena pops up.
A game for 2 players. The first one of the trilogy is considered by many the best because it's so fast paced and frantic - just great for two hardcore players.
Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdfIfC9BHwQ
ARMALYTE
A fantastic 1-or-2-player-co-op-shmup.
Great controls, weapons, bosses, stages.
Me and my bro could play this one forever.
Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUFAmJPqxK8
BRUCE LEE
Super-fun co-op-platformer from the very old days.
As Bruce Lee and a green Sumo you have to jump through well-designed stages, collecting lamps to open up new ways.
It's simple and the controls are good, so it's fun for everyone.
Recommended for 2 players.
Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reP6Ikn89nw
GRIBBLY'S DAY OUT
You are a green flying frog-like alien in a somewhat living/evolving little world.
Main objective is to collect little Gribblet creatures and bring them to the particular safe spot. This game was famous for it's music and smooth scrolling in all directions. There are two sorts of enemies. The big black crab, that you have to avoid (it gave me thrills when i was 6.)
The other enemy isn't dangerous, but it tries to steal your Gribblets.
A fun flying-platformer with lot of levels.
http://www.c64-wiki.de/images/c/c5/GDO_2.png
MURDER ON THE MISSISSIPPI
You are a british detective much like Sherlock Holmes and it's partner.
Making a trip on a big ship with lots of other travellers and someone gets killed.
You have to move around that ship, talk to people, find items, try to get into locked cabinets and find evidence (even in what the people say to you). It's like The Detective Game, a great exploration and thinking game.
Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC_hJMKBPJk
This is the (japanese) NES version. (I didn't know until today there was a NES version of it.)
But on C64 we got a translated and better looking version.
PROJECT FIRESTART
The most intense Sci-Fi-Action-Adventure on the C64.
You have to explore a space station that lost contact with it's home base.
In this very cinematic and gory sidescrolling-adventure with shooting-elements you come across an involving storyline.
The game begins quiet, but when you suddenly come across bloody headless human corpses you know something bad has happened.
http://gotcha.classicgaming.gamespy.com/_borders/pf2.gif
X-OUT
A underwater-shooter on an alien waterplanet. The more points you get,
the more ships and weapons and shields and extras you can buy.
The setting and the fat bosses and great animations, great music.
A classic shooter.

KATAKIS
This is considered the best exclusive shmup on C64 by many.
It's by Factor 5 formerly known as Rainbow Arts.
They were known for pushing hardware limits even in the 80ies.
It's an audiovisual class-A game. But it's HARD!
Shmup-fans shouldn't think twice!
http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/rtype/katakis3.gif
Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7brB_S0qUn0
KIKSTART 2
This is the Excitebike for C64. I prefer Kikstart 2 because it does everything better. It has a much better level editor with lots of different and fun items to use. The animations and music are fun. The 26 courses vary and are just perfect in design.
The best thing about it: you can play 2-player-splitscreen.
http://www.lemon64.com/games/screenshots/full/kik-start_2_02.gif
MANIAC MANSION
This is the game that started the whole point & click genre.
And still, it's so much fun and full of genious puzzles and characters.
It hasn't aged at all.
On a full moon night, Dave's girlfriend Sandy has been kidnapped.
She must be in that mansion. So you (Dave) choose 2 friends (out of 7) that help you get inside and rescue Sandy.
Every character has a special ability, so there's not just one way to beat the game.
To be honest, the NES version is pretty lame, colorless, cut and full of bugs.
The C64 version is the original and uncut game you should download if it comes to VC. But anyway, you owe yourself to play it one way or the other!

ZAK MC KRACKEN AND THE ALIEN MINDBENDERS
C64 fans who couldn't get enough of Maniac Mansion got this semi-sequel. (The real sequel Day of the Tentacle was later published on PC only.)
Zak McKracken is another fun point&click from Lucas Arts.
Some people say it's better than Maniac Mansion, because it's much longer and the world is more epic, not just a mansion.
Aliens in human-disguise have landed on earth, and they suck people's brains out. If they get you, you'll loose your abilities like "Read", "Take", "Use", "Open", "Close" etc... If you can escape, you slowly gain back your abilities. Travelling around the world is needed to solve the great puzzles this game has to offer. The Maniac Mansion cameos are awesome.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0a_A3BlSxU (German C64 version)
THE DETECTIVE GAME
The C64 had a good portion of Action-Adventures.
As a detective you're searching a hotel for indications.
You can talk to all the people, wander around and find items.
But there's some kind of time limit. If you are too slow, more and more people get killed until it's you who gets killed.
This game is really addicting. Fun characters and dialogues.
I never beat it, and love to try it again.

Classics all. Rainbow Arts did some great work on the C64 (and Amiga). They were behind the Turrican series, X-Out, Giana Sisters and Katakis, all of which pushed the hardware to its limits.

Watched the video of Katakis, it seems like it's a bit like R-Type with better music. Which ain't a bad thing really since R-Type is a really good series, I hope it will be released.
Dunno about my wishlist since I've never played a C64, but anything really, maybe The Last Ninja.

BOP 'N RUMBLE
As a blonde macho man you're walking down the streets and park,
each stage having various moves to knock down crazy old men,
bottle throwing ladies, banana-munching gorillas, bikers, dogs, bombers
and other crazy enemies.
Funny animations and big sprites made this brawler a hit back in the day.

COMMANDO
This top-view gun&run is simply amazing. Challenging and fun!
First off, the soundtrack is one of the best ever produced on the C64. It's catchy like nothing else.
The gameplay is smooth and controls are perfect.
Graphics and animations were great at the time and they're still quite good.

IMPOSSIBLE MISSION & IMPOSSIBLE MISSION II
A classic exploring/platformer. Addicting and challenging.
Watch for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEpNx2qde3Q
THE LAST NINJA & THE LAST NINJA II
A hard but beatable action/adventure. As a lone ninja you have to make your way through the park, the city, the sewers, the skyscraper etc.
Great animations, challenging puzzles and a beautiful soundtrack made this game an all-time-classic. Get the superior C64 versions - not the NES version.

TURRICAN & TURRICAN II: THE FINAL FIGHT
The Turrican series birth was on the C64.
The sequel Turrican II was a big improvement over the already superb part 1.
It was the best run&gun in the whole lifespan of the C64.
Turrican II on C64 is still considered the best Turrican-game ever.

Watched the video of Katakis, it seems like it's a bit like R-Type with better music.
The publishers of R-Type thought so too, and threatened Factor 5 with legal action, so Katakis was withdrawn, redesigned, and re-released as Denaris!
Ironically, Factor 5 ended up programming the C64 port of R-Type anyway, but had to do it in such a short amount of time that it was nowhere near as good as Katakis.

And the C64 version of R-TYPE was a perfect port.
Since it was made by Factor 5/Rainbow Arts you wouldn't expect less than greatness.
Even the technically advanced stage 3 made it somehow! Awesome and unbelievable at the time.
Video of the title screen and stage 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXizZ7kx_VE
I've mentioned Katakis/Denaris, X-Out and Armalyte already.
Now with R-Type and Uridium, we have 5 excellent shooters.
But this is just the beginning.
The C64 had a bloody great hill of good shmups:
All that comes to mind...
C64 Bandits http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cks5RmPDvbE
C64 Cybernoid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6xhfDLaVtU

C64 Netherworld http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yjVrOIb2SQ
C64 Salamander http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v_qF3zBPFQ
C64 Sanxion - damn! no video found...
C64 Wizball http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxhP6vD3unY
Not everything was good.
There was a crappy Gradius port that was called Nemesis.
The lack of music really sucks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTRh9aH5tgs
...well, there are many other shmups people liked...
Zaxxon, Poltergeist, Cosmic Convoy, Terra Fighter, Choplifter,
Xenon, 1942, Revenge of the Mutant Camels, Cavelon etc.
...and many retro-shmups as well...
Good conversions of Space Invaders, Galaxian, Centipede etc.

It'll never happen but I'd love to see Gremlin Graphic's Auf Wiedersehen Monty hit the VC. It is basically a Jet Set Willy style platform game, but it just oozes charm. You also get to fly from different sections of the map. Highly recommended!
I'd like to see an isometric platformer such as Batman, Head over Heels or Maybe even Where Time Stood Still. ;)

Three other great games I remember
FIST II: THE LEGEND CONTINUES
A kung-fu-guy travels the eastern lands, encountering lots of enemies. With 16 different moves you had to make your way through the woods, the swamp, caves and the evil kaiser's mansion. Meditation restores your energy and atmospheric music fades in at major places. It was a real challenge, and it was for from being a generic brawler. It's a strategic fighting game and an adventure.
This is part of the "Way of the Exploding Fist"-series.
http://www.gb64.com/Screenshots/F/Fist_II_-_The_Legend_Continues_1.png
LITTLE COMPUTER PEOPLE
You know Tamagotchi. This ois kinda like it, just with a little man. When you start this so called "house-on-a-disk", you get your own little random generated man with it's own name and dog. The house has 3 floors with many activities to do.
You talk with him by typing in keyboard instructions like "please write a letter to me" or "do you want to play with me?". other keyboard shortcuts activate something like ringing the doorbell, so he gets a new music record or dog food. There's a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom, a bedroom etc. You can watch him just like watching a goldfish-bowl or play minigames with him.. cardgames, anagrams and such...
This is a peaceful game you always can come back to.
Just don't let him be hungry for too long...
http://www.c64-wiki.de/images/f/fa/LCP_Animation.gif
MAGIC MADNESS
As a magician you travel the earth, the underground and the sky, searching for magic scrolls and treasures. It was one of the first platformers in 1985, where you had a selection of different items/weapons you could find and select. The music was catchy and the graphics were good. A very fun game.

Jeez guys, seriously, how can anybody want the C64 conversion of R-Type to be released when we already have an almost arcade-perfect port in the TurboGrafx version?
I myself wouldn't buy any C64 game that's had a better version released in any other system. For example, Cybernoid, Nebulus, International Karate, etc had a much better Amiga version released around the time, and games like Head Over Heels had their best looking editions in the Amstrad CPC. Note that these weren't remakes, just better versions for people who could afford better machines. It makes little sense to only release the poor-man's edition in a last-gen system.
I think they should be (ideally) releasing all the versions they could of each game at the same time, so people would be able to choose those they played in the past (I enjoy the C64 version of Cybernoid less than the CPC one, and Target Renegade for the ZX Spectrum is just much better, for example). That's what SEGA did in some of their titles of the MegaDrive Collection for PS2, where they included some of the superior arcade versions.
With that said, I might be getting Uridium because it's the original and better version... But I'll be missing the beeps and graphic detail of the Spectrum edition. =\

I doubt it will come out.... but the BASIC that came with the Commodore would be awesome. As a computer geek it would be nice to do some coding on the Wii on the Commodore as I never had a chance to use a real Commodore (came out before I was into computers) but it just would be neat.... and useless at the same time.

There's so many - Turrican mainly even though I've just got the SNES version (I do think it's superior to the C64 but I'd get it on that too for nostalgia reasons).
I'd say Ghostbusters is a good bet what with the new game coming out. I'm sure a deal will be made with Activision to grant them the licence to re-release that title.
A sad thing is a lot of my fave C64 games were licenced titles (mostly Ocean). Batman the Caped Crusader, Robocop, Navy Seals, Platoon etc. It's always likely they'll see a release - nothing is impossible in gaming.

T.G.I.F. (Awesome Text based fun family-style game, get to $xxxxx dollars)
Oils Well (Kind of like pac-man in a way)
Phoenix (Galaxian/Galaga style game)
IMPOSSIBLE MISSION & IMPOSSIBLE MISSION II ("Stay a while, stay FOREVER!")
B.C.'s Quest for Tires (Short but fun, Scrolling adventure)
Mr. Cool (Q-bert style)
Sammy Lightfoot (Platform, hard in difficulty but fun)
Lunar Lander (Pick up people, drop them off, fuel, and don't crash)
Bubble Ghost (Long and challenging game where you lead a bubble through puzzles without letting it pop)
I'd purchase all of those if they showed up. :) Can't wait. Anyone remember these? (Buck Rogers and Ducks Ahoy were two more my family liked)

Perhaps, but according to this site (http://www.nemmelheim.de/turrican/facts/):
Turrican 1 and 2 were developed simultaneously on Amiga and C64
It would be nice to see the creator's original pixellated vision of the game, but I'd prefer to get the best of the original editions, as its creator might have had a lot of input for the Amiga game, each time he added, changed or removed anything (so it's not just "another port after the game's release", like the MegaDrive version).

But that doesn't mean that they both came out at the same time. That's not true. The Amiga version of T1 came a year later. And even if they started T2 first on Amiga, the C64 version was first on the market, with the Amiga version a few months later.
Well, as I'm reading through the site, I came across a funny fact.
The excellent port of R-Type for C64 was programmed in only 6 weeks
by the Turrican creator M.T. and another German C64 guru (Andreas Escher).
Also, Turrican II has sold roughly 30.000 times. That's bad considering games need to be million-sellers today.
Obviously because of the advanced cracker scene in 1991. They killed all companies but we got all them games for $1 instead for $30 :D
M.T. even put a secret message in the game code of Turrican. A funny message only code crackers could see.

But hey, I had a original copy of that game! :D
The box was too cool.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sorry if it's already been mentioned in this thread, but wasn't there a MechWarrior / BattleTech game on the C64? I seem to have vague memories of a mech game with RPG elements, etc.

By the way, somebody please tell that C64 emu dev who visited us to suggest Amiga games as a possible VC system.
It's also Commodore's, so there shouldn't be any problems with it.

SPACE TAXI 1984 (Muse Software)
This one is remembered for it's screechy voice samples... well, that was just awesome in 1984!
But it has a nice variety of colorful levels and simple fun gameplay, too.

I had a version of this on the Amiga. It was multiplayer, so just that little bit better, and the voice samples were better too! ;)

It would be nice to see the creator's original pixellated vision of the game, but I'd prefer to get the best of the original editions, as its creator might have had a lot of input for the Amiga game, each time he added, changed or removed anything (so it's not just "another port after the game's release", like the MegaDrive version).
As I recall, both Amiga and C64 versions of Turrican were designed by Manfred Trenz, but the one that was built from the ground up by Trenz was the C64 version, and this version was completed first. The Amiga version was put together by a team of programmers working from Trenz's design.
Turrican II was published first on Amiga, but Trenz considers the C64 version to be truer to his vision, for what that's worth.
Turrican III was published first on the Amiga, but the Mega Drive version (Mega Turrican) was actually completed first.

Great Giana Sisters.. goddamn i loved that game
Nebulus
And there was this game i had on Amiga.. it was like Blood brothers - youre 2 people aiming a recticle and shooting at enemies, mostly army themed.. i cant remember what it was called though, it was great
I think it's Cabal your thinking on. I would love to see that game come to VC.
And the C64 version is actualy better then the miggy-version, after my opinion ;)
Some games I would like to see on VC is Int.Karate/IK+, Bombuzal, Law of the West, Spy Hunter, Supertest, Turican I&II and Cabal as mentioned above. And offcourse the superb Last Ninja games :D

Law of the West was something new in 1985.
Basically, you are the sheriff of a western town.
Townspeople pass by and you have something of a chit-chat (multiple answer choices), with a couple of different outcomings to each person.
Apart from chosing the right decisions, you also can aim and trigger your gun.
At the end you get the results, like..
- how many people you shot
- how much money you got
- how often you were injured
- how often you helped out
etc.
http://www.c64-wiki.de/images/2/21/LawOfTheWest_Animation.gif
If you've chosen wisely in discussions, you get a better ending.
If you shoot everyone you beat the game in half an hour and get the worst ending.
It's all about replay and get the most out of it.
After doing a bit of research, there was also a JP NES version of it, with horrible graphics and sounds compared to the C64 version.
The C64 version: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VOAA6sD-1TA

Quite original yes. Me and a buddy used to play it alot...it's cool that it have dozens of different endings etc.
But after a few beer we just started ****ing everybody off and got more and more trigger happy ;) And the laughs got better and better! Great game.

That I didn't know indeed! Thanks for the info, gotta check it out.
Don't think it has a big chance of beeing released on VC, but I will keep my fingers crossed ;-) But since there's little or no text in the game, there is a chance yes..

Do people remember MYTH: a history in the making, It was by System 3 (Last ninja). I seem to remember you played the role of a young man in waist coat, white shirt and jeans (a bit tony blair).
I remember stabbing skeletons and riding viking ships. I seem to remember it had very good animation, graphics and sound. It must have been from the early 90's it was a later day c64 game.
I would be great to play it on VC. (Unless I misremembed and it's actually crap!)

I found an article stating that the C=64 version is dated 1989, but I really doubt about it. I remember playing it on AMIGA (and never liked the fact they changed the casual dressed kid into a barbarian) and for some reason I'm convinced that if it was out in '89 I would have looked for it on C=64 instead of the 16 bit version....
And other games from that year still didn't look that gorgeous. For example CREATURES was released in 1990....I don't think I still have my Zzap! collection, otherwise I'd search there.
Never liked the AMIGA version anyway....well I think I didn't like the game (never been into platforms, yes SMB, too), so I guess my interest was because of its great technical display and the good reviews it received.
But I remember it to be a bit short....

There was a game I used to lvoe playing with my mate, I can't remember the name though so hopefully someone here might recognise it. Basically you were a knight and you explored a dungeon killing undead (skeletons mainly dont know if there were any other kinds to kill) Best bits about it is that it was two player, you could pick up big swords and hammers and even throw the hammers at the bad guys and also fight each other was a good laugh.

Yay! I used to love the loading music on Myth!! Couldn't you decapitate monsters with your sword and see the heads flying off in Myth?! lol....great game!
Is there any plans to include loading musics or loading screens with any of the games?
This is my wishlist in no particular order....and yes some of the games are dodgy but I spent soooooo many hours back in the day playing them!
Creatures - The original one as I liked the platforming sections too!
Krakout - I dont know why but I was addicted to this game and still play it today on emulators so it would be great to have it on the wii!
Parallax - Great shooter with a few gimicky things like getting out of your spaceship and capturing scientists for passcodes! Oh yeah and a kicking tune to go with the game!
Anarchy - Simple puzzle shooting game by mastertronic, which means on VC it will cost a lot more than it ever did in the shops!
It's a knockout - Fantastic multiplayer game with odd events! Dull by yourself but great with friends!
I'm sure I've missed loads off but there ya are!

WOW. So many good suggestions.
I'd love to see Airborne Ranger and Infiltrator make it onto the Virtual Console as those two games had me tied up for hours on end but they will need all sorts of keyboard inputs so unlikely to see the light of day.
Also :-
Yie Ar Kung Fu
Trap Door
Super Cars
Decathlon
Winter Games
World Games (Now this is a classic)
and
Paradroid
KikStart II
have both been mentioned in dispatches already.

Blue Buzzard, excellent call with Airborne Rangers; I loved that game. Here are some more:
Kronis Rift - kind of an action battle tech type; get better weapons and shields.
Roadwar Europa - (my fav. game ever; turn-based strategy, get bigger better vehicles for your gang (Mad Max style) searching Europe for Nukes.
Auto Duel - Great grand daddy of Twisted Metal.
Maniac Mansion - point and click adventure; the twisted part is that it's more fun to figure out new ways to kill off your characters.
Man! those were the days; theses games r still fun today!

I always thought that was Scorched Earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorched_Earth_%28computer_game%29). my uncle still has his C64 working, and the name was simply "tanks" I dunno if its the same game or not. you could pick computer characters as well, "lobber" was one of them. al i know is it was an 8 player game,turn-based. and when you won a stage you could get $ to upgrade. I always loved dropping a 5 kiloton meganuke, which would blow up 3/4 of the screen
yeah "tank wars" looks like it, but it had a different title screen, probably what confused me. It was very lo-fi. yet addictingly fun.
there was also a c64 game where you played as a kid running through trapped levels, and there were spring boards everywhere.can't remember the name, but it had an awesome level editor. the british royal theme was played in the background. so i am guessing it was a UK game. another fun one you were a witch i believe and you had to go around castles and defeat skulls and goblets amongst other halloween characters. bizarre stuff, i wish i wasnt 5 when i played the majority, so i could remember names.

well... never had a commodore but arch rival Amstrad (6128 disk drive with a k and everything)
I've said for years that Codemasters needs to re-release their back catalogue. Maybe VC is the way to do it but top of my list would be

They'd probably have removed Sydney Sparkle from the roster what with him being banged up in a virtual Thai jail though....:p
