View Full Version : Bring back Mean Machines!

Back in the day, Mean Machines really was the best games magazine around. Perhaps my nostalgia is heightening my adulatory perspective, but I used to ravish every page as soon as I got it, and it was as much a part of my childhood as the games that it featured. I'll never forget the issue in which the dismal Road Fighter for the NES got 9/100. When you're eight years old, that sort of thing is truly mind-bending. Bring back Mean Machines! I'd buy it.

Edit your expletives, mang.

Surely if the expletives are not auto-censored then they're acceptable?

mang?

Your logic is flawed, and don't call me Shirley.

I love that line, Leslie Neilson rocks!

No, they're not. We don't have a censor because as of now, it's not needed. Your post has been edited, please cease the use of such language. You have been warned.

Yes, I would like to know what mang is?

Because one of the forum rules is not to insult someone. So, is it an insult? Or did you just mean "man"?

"What's goin' on, mang."

Something along the lines of a mexican pronounciation of "man." Ain't I a stinkah?

Amiga Power was the best magazine, but we don't have Amiga VC yet, so it's a moot point.

I remember that. I never got many gaming mags, never had any money. Wasn't much into gaming either, again, never had any money.

So the reason I loved the AMIGA so much was because I knew some guys who had all these AMIGA games and said "wanna copy?". I never knew it was illegal. I was like 5, so I was straight in there :)

So anyway, I think my bro bought AP and I just liked looking at the pictures back then. For me, T.V was my gaming magazine fix. Games Master rocked!

They used to show repeats on sky and i'd watch em, lol.

Dominic Diamond rocks, and I loved his new show. Shame it seems to have been canned. That guy really knew his stuff when it came to games.

Crash had the best covers of any magazine ever, full stop. Your Sinclair pretty much invented journalism as we know it now (they even mentioned it in my friends degree course!). Mean Machines took up the baton when they faded and ran with. Far.

But C&VG had Radion Automatic.

But C&VG had Radion Automatic.

So did Mean Machines (http://www.meanmachinesmag.co.uk/biography/4/radion-automatic.php)!! 8)

I've just wet myself...can't believe that photo...Radion Automatic had the greatest hair of the early '90's...he was the living embodiment of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine...lol...underrated LEGEND.

And, of course, arch contributor to Mean Machines as well as C&VG

The missus is now screaming about the puddle I've made...

Just read the interview with Rad and remembered Fit Sister. One of my pals actually asked us if he should send in a photo of his.

EDIT: Okay...it wasn't the MM one it turns out...but still...made ME laugh. :?

I also really liked Zzap 64, but that's another moot point.

Only in the early 90s could a dude get away with calling himself Radion Automatic. Fresh!

He's quite the dude. Some interesting insights into Radion Automatic, life at Mean Machines and Sonic preview carts to be found here:

Regarding that Sonic preview cart, you'd best get Tom to dump the ROM as soon as possible, or he will lose the data to bit rot.

I'd mention it myself but I don't want to sign up for another forum just to leave one message, and I'm also not sure how one dumps a ROM, but I'm sure you lot can figure it out!

He'd be crazy not to work out how to dump the rom. Even crazier to let Joe Public get their hands on it! Can you imagine how valuable this novelty might be? Wooie!! 8)

Oh yeah, definitely. But he doesn't have to share the ROM. I know that if I had the cart, I'd make sure the data was backed up somewhere, just in case!
