I know there's already a thread on Square-Enix games, but I have to bring up ActRaiser on its own, as I've been playing it for the last few days (though I downloaded it when it came out but didn't play it) and it's awesome!
Whatever comes down this week, buy ActRaiser, you won't regret it!
I'm on the 4th (of 6) towns now and loving every minute of it.
In case anyone hasn't seen it, watch this youtube clip of the first few minutes.

I'm considering it, but I'll probably get Gunstar Heroes tonight if nothing I want comes on.
It does look good though.

I have a question. How do you get the Aura magic? I know I don't really need because I've beaten the game twice already.

I've just been playing this again this weekend after having not played it for about 15 years! What a game! I remember enjoying it at the time but thought the God sim elements would be boring after all this time. Not at all, it's been keeping my interest. The action scenes are still pretty good, the character isn't all that nimble to respond unlike ghouls n ghosts for instance but the level design and end bosses work really well.
What I like best about this game is how it marries together the old action platformer and civilisations type game. Only Square-Enix could do this sort of thing so well. 8)

Which is how it should be. The game requires ninja-skills, and that's not kidding.

To me the action bits aren't that bad. What actraiser does well is giving you 3 lives to go through and do an act. It's not like if you mess it up getting game over so you have to start from the beginning.
All that is needed is some practice. For nastier bosses just save up some magic. If you get stuck on a land then move to the next one and come back later.
Imho the balance is just about right, they don't make em like this anymore! 8)

That's absolutely right, Dazza.
My only problem has been that I've breezed through the game, but now I'm at the last boss (or I should say, bosses) and I'm finding it ultra hard.
One of the very best VC games I've downloaded, and such a shame that I don't think it is as well known as it should be.

Hendo, what magics have you got? The bosses can be tough without the magics!!

I've got 4 magics to choose from. Um, can't remember which, but it doesn't seem to matter as I tend to run out about halfway through the bosses.
I can get as far as 4 or 5 I think.

ActRaiser is indeed a fine game, too bad ActRaiser 2 had to come and ruin it...
I'm not saying it's horrible, but it's no way as good as the original
even so, ActRaiser 2 does have sweet graphics!

STARDUST... USE THE STARDUST MASTER... STARDUST IS THE MELODY OF LOVE'S REFRAIN, so use it and to kill Tanzra quickly.
Or use magical light so it would sure-fire hit Tanzra, my Master!

Well, I'm buggered if I can even get to the final boss!
I've read a few boss guides on GameFAQs but I'm not sure it's made a difference.
The first one I have to use magic as he's too quick for me to use the technique from when you first see him. The others I can do ok, apart from the wheel thing which I also have to use magic.
Out of the 7, I can get as far as number 6. It's a shame as I've been finishing a few games recently, and this was next on my list to clear.

I also have it and I'm loving every minute of playing, but I'm stuck in the 2nd dungeon of the 1st town, this cavern. In this dungeon, there is something like a skull dragon and when he hits me Im dead no matter what I do, so what can I do against him and how to get to the end of this friggin dungeon?

Just beat it this afternoon. The last battle is pretty damn difficult, but after about 30 minutes of trial and error I finally won and my world is now at peace, which leaves a god out of a job. :D
I really thought the game would be longer. If I had to estimate I'd say I spent about 7 hours tops. Still, it was great while it lasted. Great music, awesome gameplay, and a nonsensical ending littered with typos! Excellent!

Woah, yesterday I finally finished Fillmore, this Skull thing had to be killed with Magic oO
The Minotaur was beaten after the 2nd try, so I didn't have to repeat it too often, lucky me xD
So now Bloodpool is the next Place =D

I finally started ActRaiser over again.
I always wanted to kill that damn last boss, but back in the day, I never had a chance. Now I'm on Level 17, Life x 7, Magic Scrolls x 7.
I'm at the entry of the last dungeon, housed by the 8 bosses.
I have some questions about the last battle and the game in general.
1. What Level, how many Lifes and Magic Scrolls did you have, when you'd beaten the last stage?
2. Need good tactics to battle the last bosses.
3. Which Magic Spell should I use in the last battle?
I really hate that last stage. The rest of the game is easy, and the simulation stages are great (I wish they were bigger) but the last boss is frustratingly hard.
About the game in general:
4. Where have you found hidden extra Sources of Life / Sources of Magic ?
5. Has anyone beaten Professional mode or Action mode? What are the differences? Is it worth to be played again?

I played the heck outta Actraiser when i was younger, it was one of my first games i got with my supernintendo. its a great game but i was also surprised at how quickly i got through all the worlds this time around. i remember the areas being bigger, oh well, i still had alot of fun playing it.
and this time around i figured out a pretty cool trick, that might help everyone out with those final battles.
Ok, so, youve populated every zone and your ready to run the gauntlet, but before you do, go back to all the zones and use earthquake to destroy everything. yes your gunna kill everyone but what your also doing is getting rid of the old huts and clay houses that dont support as many people. thell rebuild in full force, with all newer housing raising the population, which in turn raises your lvl. a few more lvls could help get you through those final bosses.
you might want to leave the game for a few minutes as they rebuild cause its not very interesting to watch. but dont move to the next zone until they finish building, for maximum effect.
give it a try! 8-)

I maximized everything, I think.
My town population is
Fillmore: 914
Bloodpool: 874
Aitos: 802
Kasandora: 874
Maranha: 538
Northwall: 650
How can I kill the last boss?
Any cheap tricks that keep me from losing all my HP, lives and magic scrolls?

This is how i did it.
<spoiler mode>
final boss start: jump through the balls and go left, duck(to avoid the beam) and fire
boss down: hit one mob
boss up: jump and hit one
boss right: follow the boss right and turn to smack the mobs following, go left and dodge the balls
duck and fire
repeat

Thankyou, but.. too late. ;)
I have beaten ActRaiser some days ago. The final boss took me ages.
When I was a kid I couldn't beat him... but now I think I could do him everytime. I didn't even use any magic on him.
My strategy to DEATH HEIM.
First: Have maximum Level (17), maximum Extra Lives (7) and maximum Magic Scrolls (7).
First boss : Just bash him! It doesn't matter if he hits you. Trigger your button and smash his life out. Just try to kill him before he kills your life.
If he kills you first, load your game again.
Second boss : Just stay at the bottom of one side and avoid his fire. If you're on a lower level he makes his thunder attack. That's when you have to knock him. You don't lose energy here if you do it right.
If the wizard transforms into a werewolf just hit him, go back, hit him, go back, hit him. If you're to close to the wall, jump on the ledge above and over the wolf and hit him form the other side. He wouldn't attack you or jump around if you're on the lower platforms.
Third boss : Now if your low on your first life you might want to kill yourself (6 Lives left). The pharao mask comes down and floats into your direction. jump, hit, go back. jump, hit, go back, jump, hit, go back.
if he stomps on you, hit him 3 times and jump over his lightning attack.
run away and jump over the arrow. He's easy.
Fourth boss : The fire wheel. If the wheel is in the middle attack him two times and let you fall to the left because he bumps to the right.
If the wheel is on the ground, jump on the ledge. You might jump if the wheel rolls around on the ground. Just drop to the bottom if the wheel comes up. And always hit him twice from the ledge if he's in the middle and drop down before he shoots at you.
Fifth boss : You might lose a second life in this or the match before (5 Lives). This boss is easy. Stay on one side of the screen. And don't walk under the boss. Just jump over his thunderbolts. There are 2 spike platforms to each side of the boss. Just stand under the one next to the boss and he eventually let it drop. Avoid it and jump on it. As you go up hit him twice and let you fall to the opposite direction. It takes some time, but you'll be safe.
Sixth boss : The dragon. If youre low on life, kill yourself (4 Lives).
Now use all your star thunder magic spells, if the dragon stops moving around.
Seventh boss : This one's easy. Just avoid the meteors and if the head comes down don't step too close and hit him with your sword magic. Continue.
Eight boss : Easy if you stay cool.
He shoots a red and a blue thing twice. Kill these things, because they suck - they follow and hit you.
Then he makes an attack where you don't have too be too close or too far away from him. The middle of the screen should be ok.
Now it's your time to slash your sword magic into him! 7 times should do it, then duck down, before his KILLERATTACK hits you.
Then everything repeats. Just don't let the KILLERATTACK hit you. Just duck down and you'll be alright.
