Mine is big time. All it does is sit on my shelf all day with full battery awaiting the next time I open it. I really want to play it but none of my games are well, none are looking "good". And maybe it's because no games that are coming out really interest me. But I guess I shouldn't say I never use it, I use it for an alarm every day. But that's it. I want to get a DS lite but I feel like I wouldn't use it. But I dunno, maybe I should give it another chance, Because I want to. Anyone else feel like this?
P.S Does anyone recommend any games? Sonic Rush? or is there any good RPG games, or Zelda like things on the DS?

Well, what games do you already have, what type of games do you like, and what type of games do you hate?
If Twilight Princess and DKC3 have got you on the Wii, then maybe try out Phantom Hourglass (much more light-hearted than TP but in the same series) and the platformer Yoshi's Island DS. If you like puzzle games, there's a ton of good ones to be had. |

I don't even know where my DS is. Haven't really looked for it.

DS is actually better now than it ever was.
You should get Advance Wars Days of Ruin, or if you want to start off a little lighter and easier, then get Advance Wars Dual Strike. Both are terrific games, but Dual Strike breaks you a little more and gets fairly difficult at the end of the main campaign, while DoR is more difficult, but has a different artstyle, different units, a better story, and WiFi multiplayer. Also, I believe that Days of Ruin has a better unit-balance and overall emphasis on Army strategy, since the COs don't have as much of an effect on the overall performance of your units as they do in Dual Strike. Advance Wars is what makes the DS for me, honestly. Other than that (at least for Strategy) you should try Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, or Final Fantasy Tactics A2 when it comes out. Puzzle-wise, Tetris DS and Planet Puzzle League are both stupidly addicting and fun, and WiFi enabled to boot. I love both of them, because I've been with both for awhile (Tetris is a given, but I loved Tetris Attack [Puzzle de Pon] for the SNES) If RPGs are your thing, then give Final Fantasy III a shot. It's Final Fantasy. Better yet, a different yet completely addicting text RPG is the Ace Attorney series. So far there's Phoenix Wright AA, Justice for All, Trials and Tribulations, and Apollo Justice AA is coming out soon. For action games, get Metroid Prime: Hunters. The single player is eh, but the Online Multiplayer makes the game terrific. It's FPS basically, but the control scheme makes it smooth and responsive (If you have a large stylus, at least.)

Have you considered subscribing to gamefly.com? It's kinda like netflix for video games. It'll give you a chance to try out games en masse before investing a large amount of money. There's also an option on some games that, if you really like the one you're renting, to just go ahead and buy it.
Series: I'd suggest looking into the Castlevania, Dragon Quest, and Kirby series. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is an interesting mixture of action, platformer, and RPG, with enough unlockables to keep a completionist going for quite some time. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is a short but cute and fun adventure game. You can't kick goombas into space, but you can shoot cats into tanks. Kirby Squeak Squad is a straight up Kirby platformer, while Kirby: Canvas Curse diverges from the fan-familiar formula of munching enemies to gain their powers for a more challenging and fast-paced experience. I'd also suggest giving a Pokemon game a try if you haven't yet--the name can be a turnoff, but the game is an incredible time-sink, in the good way. I have got over 300 hours from my Pearl cart. I hear that Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is a similar type of game. Puzzles: Picross is an excellent, pure-logic game, but you may have trouble finding it. Meteos & it's Disney-themed sequel are surprisingly addictive and fun. If you like playing with words, then it may be worthwhile to look into WordJong or The New York Times Crosswords. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, where puzzle meet RPG, is the most glitchy game I have ever thoroughly enjoyed. "Edutainment": If you study or would like to study French or Spanish, you may be interested in My French Coach or My Spanish Coach. I own the latter and really enjoy it. Misc: If you haven't tried any rhythm or music games, I'd suggest at least renting or borrowing someone's Elite Beat Agents. This is a fast-paced, addictive game, with a crazy sense of humor. There are quite a few similar games that can be imported should you find that you like it. Finally, Professor Layton and the Curious Village will come out on the 10th of this month (in the US). I am not familiar with the game, not having a copy, but word on the street is that it was received well in Japan. |

Having anybody's DS be a dust collector is a serious offense. =P That said, I vary my playing habits between my DS and Wii by using one of them extensively for a period of weeks, then switching to the other for the next few. I certainly can't say that I'm running out of games to play.
For puzzle games my favorites are Tetris DS and Puzzle Quest. Regarding the former, I've been thoroughly enjoying Push WiFi battles: a much more strategic variant on the classic formula. The latter is formidable in having turned the boring "match-three" puzzlers into a very endearing - and sometimes frustrating (but in a good way) - re-imagining. Anyways, you really ought to look into the scope of games beyond just the Mario brand. There is a significant library of games, including third-party titles, that should be able to keep you more than entertained. My own library has grown to over two dozen since my DS purchase in last May. I'm just going to throw out a few more names of games I've really enjoyed: Advance Wars: Dual Strike / Advance Wars: Days of Ruin - As a fan of turn-based strategy I love the series, especially the newest game, which puts a much greater emphasis on strategy. Worms: Open Warfare 2 - Whacked out action-strategy that is always a blast to play. Contra 4 - Tough-as-nails action that makes one enjoy losing - for the challenge. (unless you find these games easily frustrating) Metroid Prime Pinball - The only pinball game worth owning on the DS. Pretty fun stuff, even if it has relatively little to do with the usual Metroid games other than its theme. Elite Beat Agents - Excellent rhythm game that never fails to entertain. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - Fun action-platformer. Kirby Canvas Curse - An inventive and fun creation that encompasses the Kirby charm with very unique gameplay only possible on the DS. Picross - A great and, at times, mind-bending puzzler; its several hundred puzzles, as well as downloadable content, provide one with a lot of play for one's buck. Nanostray - A challenging an fun shoot-'em-up, even if its somewhat on the short side.

Mine has been ever since I put custom firmware on my PSP back when the Lumines exploit was discovered, I have had no reason to play my DS lite at all, the only games I have are Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64, and New Super Mario Bros.
My PSP gets more play time than my DS Lite and I feel sorry for my poor DS just sitting there, I used to have Pokemon Diamond, played it for awhile, then lost interest in it, I still have Pokemon Fire Red for the GBA, and I just don't see that much of a difference in the Pokemon games from one version to another besides more Pokemon, different ways to battle, and new Gym badges to get etc. Maybe someday I'll play my DS abit more, but for now I am really enjoying my PSP, homebrew really opens up new possibilities. |
