Yes. There's a reason why there is no game on the VC that is for age "18" or even "16".

First, it's an overall businessman decision. You make the most money with games for "everyone". And you get really good money with games aged at "6" and "12". Games aged at "16" is good and all, but the millions of parents wouldn't get it for their millions of kids on christmas. Forget these millions of dollars that could be made. It's logical - you make the most money with games aged from 5-95.

With such things as the "child security option" built into the Wii, you see where the market's going.

Anyway, most of the games that were rated "16" or "18", are now rated "6" or 12",
for example Golden Axe and Splatterhouse.
But this is just a graphic issue. Older games can't compare to the animated gore in todays titles, so they got re-rated.

Some games even got off the banned-list, because they don't seem violent at all these days. Violence got a long way. Such old games have good chances to appear on the VC.

There are other games where it's all like twenty years ago. Games including racism, porn or drugs. If you want such a game, you're on the wrong platform.

And now for a list of good games that were "for mature audiences only" back in the day, hoping for them to be released on the VC.

You might not know, Nintendo of Europe is in Germany, and so is the BPjM who bans games and the USK who rates games (and works close with PEGI - the EU counterpart), so as history showed, things may turn out different in Europe and in the US.

My personal top five spots claiming Rareware's games.

GoldenEye (N64) - Banned in Germany
A gory moment: You can zoom in with a Sniper from like 2 kilometres
(yes, the sight was great and the levels where big with no pop-ups)
to the head of some civilian.
If you shoot, there's a bit of blood but the animations were stunning enough.
And you lost your mission objective, meaning do the level all over again, so this game is in a way more human than the latest mature games.
At least you're James Bond and have to kill the bad buddies.
I think it's enough to have this re-rated at age "16", since I was 16 myself when I played this game. But NoE has to speak with the BPjM.
If the game will still be banned there's no hope (at least for Germans).
Could there be a way to just change the language of your Wii and get this game from other European countries?

Killer Instinct (SNES) - Banned in Germany
A gory moment: Just the usual Mortal Kombat like fatality stuff.
This for sure will be re-rated to age "16".

Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64) - Somehow the most actual, brutal and goriest game was aged at "16" (even in Germany) with a parental advisory: "explicit humour".
A gory moment: Too much! Flying cow pieces and bursting rats come to mind. As this game has somehow never been banned, with all the nazi, porn and drug references, it only got a rating aged at "16". There's good chances of seeing this one appear - but it got published by THQ, not by Nintendo or Rare - if that means something.

Perfect Dark (N64) - Banned in Germany
Same case as GoldenEye.

Killer Instinct Gold (N64) - Banned in Germany
Same case as Killer Instinct.

Other mature games we'd like to see on VC.

Resident Evil 2 (N64) - Banned in Germany
It has aged pretty much in comparison to Resident Evil 4 and RE:UC.(Nintendo lately decided not to release RE:UC in Germany.)
Still Resident Evil 2 doesn't look very gory anymore, but is scary as ever.
Get it off the ban-list and re-rate at "16" seems appropriate.
In the end it's a great game and a classic.

Mortal Kombat (SNES/MD/N64) series - Most of it banned in Germany.
This series has a cult following it and so there's at least money to make.
The comical death sequences were rather fun than gory or anything.
Yes, there were litres of blood coming out of the bodies, but it never was as realistic as it would suggest with all the talking about MK.
The newer 3D Mortal Kombat games are much gorier than the classic ones and got a "16" rating, so the old ones are sure to be re-rated and get off the ban-list.
Anyway, since there are no western publishers on the VC yet, we'll have to wait until Nintendo decides to do so. In this case Midway would be important. Not just for MK but also for...

Doom series - Banned in Germany.
There were two Doom games I really liked, for the tense atmosphere:
Doom (SNES) and Doom 64 (N64).
These games need a re-rating. The graphics are first generation First Person Shooter and you know, FPS have come a veeery looong way.
In the end, you're just killing demons and monsters, no human beings.
What if Ghouls'n Goblins was a FPS?

This list isn't complete. Feel free to write your own "Mature Games I want on VC" here.
