Aerofighters Assault isn't that bad.
It's a bit short, but the missions are different and challenging. You can save after each mission.
The controls are ace, but a bit complex in the beginning.
It's no Wii-control but what did you expect?
The balance of realistic flight-simulation and arcade style shooter is quite good.
The graphics are bland at some missions and slow (PAL) but the action is always there and the jet design was very good as I remember it.
Dogfighting was intense and endbosses were cruel.
Of course we've been spoilt by games such as Heatseeker.
The music seems to be remaked of the original 2D-Aerofighters/Sonicwings shmups, so I can't complain, even if it was kind outta place.
"...Not that I've ever been in the c o c k p i t of a jet fighter,
but the way you can bank, roll, dive, and even pull off cobra maneuvers
gives the game an air of authenticity." IGN 12/1997
It is not everyones cup-o-tea but puzzle games are also not for everyone.
RPG's are not for everyone. Racing games are not for everyone. etc etc.
On gamefaqs it got good scores throughout:

A video where much of the missions are shown:
SPOILER! http://youtube.com/watch?v=r8DWmE57S6k
At least this one is for me!

It will be the first N64 title I'm gonna download, since I have all of the rest original.
I think Paradigm made good games:
Pilotwings 64 F1 World Grand Prix F1 World Grand Prix II Beetle Adventure Racing
They're all better than
Aerofighters Assault, but this is also worth a look.
Just read the info and watch that video and see for yourself if you would like it or not.
