But that's precisely my point, if these games can come out a decade later and still be unable to outshine their predecessors 3D debuts in the eyes of nostalgics then what chance does a game that only has a few years on its competition in nostalgia have.
First will almost always be most popular provided that first is considered good...which is why nobody is nostalgic about Streetfighter 1.
Look how nostalgic people are about SMRPG despite the fact that every Mario RPG that's come out since has been infinitely better.
It's all about what broke the ground and made us smile for that first time where nostalgia is concerned. I honestly don't think many people remember
The World is Not Enough because it simply wasn't groundbreaking or as original when released, no matter how polished it may have been.
Even this poll is reflecting the trend with more people preferring the technically inferior Goldeneye to the more polished Perfect Dark.
